LORNA BYRNE AT THE FRIENDS MEETING HOUSE, LONDON 22/9/10
A few months ago I was staying at a dingy hotel in Exeter at loose end one evening. With nothing better to do I scanned through the hotel’s collection of books left out for guests to read. One book caught my attention – “Angels In My Hair” by Lorna Byrne. I’d heard of it, but had never read it. So with a spare evening ahead of me, I started reading it. By 11.30 pm I had read the book from cover to cover! It told the story of one woman’s life in Ireland from the fifties through to the present, but the difference was this woman could see angels! I found the book both moving and inspiring and finished it with a strange peace in my mind. Now several months later I have come to London to see and hear the lady in question at an event organised by “Alternatives”, a group of spiritually minded people, who bring in inspirational writers and teachers from all over the world to speak at their events.
There are around five hundred people in the hall and it’s so full downstairs that I have to make my way upstairs to the extra seats in the gallery. When Lorna walks up onto the stage there’s instant applause and she begins with a short prayer. The evening is split into two parts. So for the first part she is interviewed by Steve Noble of Alternatives, who asks her various questions about her life, her new book, “Stairways to Heaven” and of course angels. Before he starts the interview, he asks the audience to put their hands up first, if they believe in angels and then, if they are not sure. It’s about 90% in favour of belief in angels, so Lorna is in good company!
She tells us that she can see a very large angel at the back of the hall, whom she has never seen before and of course us mere mortals cannot see anything. But she reassures us that she can see our guardian angels standing right behind all of us with their golden hands on our shoulders. Lorna then recounts various episodes from her life where angels have helped and worked with her, starting from a very early age when they first appeared to her. She was told then not to tell anybody about her gift, so it is only recently that she has come forward and opened up to the world about angels. She recalled how the angels instructed her to write her book, “Angels In My Hair” and which publisher to send it to, and even the name of her editor!
Interestingly, she talked about reincarnation and how she could see certain individual’s previous incarnations when she looked at them. Though she felt that most people on earth today, have not had many incarnations, or are even her just for the first time. She also told us that the Earth has its own guardian angel, who interacts with Mother Earth and who often pleads with Her to stop earthquakes. Lorna also told us of the vision of heaven she had experienced and how she went through the veil into the very presence of God, where everything was so big and see-through like. She was so afraid of God that she went and hid behind a large book, but He found her!
After a break the audience get their chance to ask Lorna questions. The first question is one she often gets asked, “Why is it just you and not lots of other people who can see angels?” Her reply is simply that she doesn’t really know, but that she is quite sure that she has been called to spread God’s love and the message of angels to everyone, and that we also need to stand up for what we believe and not be afraid of ridicule. She recalled how at a book signing in America one woman told her that she didn’t feel that she should be there as she was Jewish. But Lorna told her that angels work with everybody, regardless of what religion you are. When asked a question about the difference between Angels and Spirit Guides, her reply was that they are the same. So maybe we will have to change the name of this website??!!!
All too soon the evening came to a close and after a short meditation we all filed out. I was impressed with Lorna’s sincerity and firmness of her belief in angels. And as I walked out into the bustling London streets, I again felt the strange sense of peace I had when I first read the book all those months ago.
